2016 Outer Space Ambitions

January 12, 2016

We don’t have to tell space nerds that last year was a big year for outer space. In 2015 we discovered Pluto is not a planet, we made great strides in reusable rockets, we found strong evidence of water on Mars and last March, American astronaut Scott Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko left Earth for a yearlong stay aboard the International Space Station. What’s on tap for 2016? Here’s a link highlighting upcoming space news from Motherboard. First, physicist Stephen Hawking and tycoon Yuri Milner have pledged $100 million to fund Breakthrough Listen, a massive alien-listening project. Next, in July, NASA’s Juno craft will slip into orbit around Jupiter and get our closest look yet our giant neighbor. Then in November, private spaceflight will take a giant step forward with a quick round trip to the International Space Station. Finally, NASA will be launching OSIRIS-REx to do some outer space investigating.
