The 2018 Oscar Hits & Misses

March 14, 2018

The Oscars represent the height of Hollywood glitz and glam; a celebration of the movies that America loved…or didn’t. This award show had the typical must-see fashion successes and faux pas, boring presenters and hilarious bright spots. The big winners include Jordan Peele for Get Out who was historically the first African American man nominated for Best Director, Writer and Producer for the same film. Frances McDormand won Best Actress for her lead role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Shape of Water won Best Picture. There were a lot of highs and lows throughout the ceremony and it garnered a mix-bag of reviews. Jimmy Kimmel was the host for the second year in a row and didn’t hold back when it came to joking about Hollywood’s current rocky climate. Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph were praised for providing the funniest portion of the show – they walked on stage holding their shoes. In addition, Haddish wore a dress that she’s already worn three times (unheard of in Hollywood!) at a Girl’s Trip premiere, on SNL and The Oscars. There were no scandals this year like last year’s Moonlight and La La Land Best Picture mix-up, but it was overall reviewed to be a bit boring. What did you think of the star-studded event?
