Need some fans? How about robots?

February 26, 2016

What’s a struggling baseball team do to keep the energy up in less than packed stadiums? Robots of course! The Hanwha Eagles have suffered more than 400 losses in the past five years, so fans are few and far between until now. By introducing a rowdy section of robots the Eagles’ games are filled with cheers, chants and of course the wave. This isn’t the only techno sporting innovation coming from Asia lately, as part of Japan’s unsuccessful bid for the 2022 World Cup, the country said it hoped to re-create live matches using holographic technology in other locations. It would mean, in theory, that several stadiums full of fans could be watching the same match at once. With robots and holograms it’s getting hard to know who’s on first.
