Alcohol Brands in the Age of Coronavirus

In this time of uncertainty, there is one thing that has puzzled the minds of many recently: do Americans really believe they can contract the coronavirus by drinking Corona beer? Recent weeks have seen a spike in internet searches for “corona beer virus” and “beer coronavirus.” This seems to suggest that there is some sort of association being made between the iconic beer and virus. Furthermore, 38% of American beer drinkers surveyed by 5W Public Relations last week said they wouldn’t buy corona beer “under any circumstances” currently.

It isn’t just Corona dealing with odd circumstances. Last week, Tito’s vodka had to issue a statement urging customers not to use their liquor to create their own hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer needs to contain 60% alcohol, and Tito’s is only 40% alcohol, making this homemade hand sanitizer ineffective. Tito’s has recommended that their customers stick to washing their hands, as it is the most effective form of prevention.
