Aly Raisman rose to incredible fame after joining the US Women’s Gymnastic Olympics team in 2011 and 2016, where their immense skill gained huge popularity and were fondly coined “The Fab Five”. While all the girls on the team are powerhouses in their own right, Raisman was the leader of the pack. “Throughout her career, Raisman kept everyone calm. She was a leader in a sport of individuals, telling nervous teammates to “Trust your training. Just breathe” before competitions.”Her talent knew no bounds, but recently, she has been at the forefront of the news of using her power in a different way – to shed light on the sexual harassment and challenges she and many others faced at the hands of their sports doctor, Larry Nassar. At Nassar’s hearing, Raisman delivered pointed, powerful words to bring justification to not only her, but, all of the victims in the athletic community. She stated, “Abusers, your time is up. The survivors are here, standing tall, and we are not going anywhere.” Her strength was felt around her entire community and it was celebrated at the 2018 ESPYS awards. Over 100 victims of Larry Nassar stood on the stage and we’re given a standing ovation for their courage to stand for what is right. Closing with a profound statement: “We may suffer alone but we survive together”.
