“Avengers: Endgame” Rewrites History

May 10, 2019

Whether or not the Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed the film landscape is up for debate, but one thing is certain: it has changed box office history. “Avengers: Endgame” reached the $2 billion mark in just 11 days, becoming the quickest film in history to do so.

The previous record was set by James Cameron’s “Avatar”, which took more than four times that length to reach $2 billion. “Endgame” still has its sights set on “Avatar”, though, as Cameron’s film is the only one still higher than the recent Avengers installment in the all-time box office rankings.

The film’s box office success has been a long time coming. It’s the culmination of over twenty previous films, and tickets had been available for pre-sale for weeks prior to the movie’s release.

We’ll see whether or not “Endgame” can pass “Avatar” for the overall box office record, but it has already made history either way.
