‘Bite Size Horror’

October 31, 2017

Halloween and candy go together like peanut butter and jelly. Fox Networks launched four mini movies, each two-minute long, that had viewers watching strange and spooky advertising just in time for Halloween. Fox Networks and Mars candy brands (Skittles, M&Ms, Starburst and Snickers) teamed up to get their viewers in the Halloween spirit. Skittles ‘Floor 9.5’ tells the creepy story of an office worker who gets stuck between the 9th and 10th floor and when the elevator door finally opens, she is greeted by a man standing in the shadow (…). M&Ms’ ‘The Road’ tells the unnerving tale of a dad and his daughters visiting a haunted, desolate stretch of road. Starburst’s ‘Replacement’ tells the eerie story of a young boy who is visited by a masked doppelgänger. And finally, Snickers’ ‘Live Bait’ tells the ghostly tale of a fisherman whose tale suddenly turns. “The films are very well made. Obviously, it’s easier to present something convincing when you don’t have to squeeze the brand or product into the plot.” Fox Networks and Mars have also done a great job at utilizing primetime television spots to market these short films. ‘Floor 9.5’ ran during one of the Yankees-Indians playoff games and the high viewership sparked an ongoing conversation on Twitter. Bottom line, it is Halloween and you can’t have tricks without little treats!
