Facebook’s Latest Controversy

March 30, 2018

There’s a good chance that almost everyone you know has a Facebook. Social media is a huge part of our world’s landscape and Facebook is one of the pioneers of our current social network empire. The digital powerhouse certainly found itself in hot water recently after claims that they helped to interfere with the 2016 US election. The network has been accused of misusing over 50 million Facebook users data through data mining and analytics firm Cambridge Analytica.

This scandal has renewed a sense of mistrust for the social media giant – shouldn’t they have our privacy as their top priority? As history continues to prove; they don’t. Facebook users are the product and advertisers are the customers and it’s causing some major backlash. “Facebook’s lack of enforcement in the face of bad actors, coupled with misuse of its platform on a grand scale, have drawn outrage around the globe. And while Cambridge Analytica is among the most prominent examples to date of how Facebook can be misused, it belongs to a long and growing list” The narrative continues to shift and different problems for Mark Zuckerburg continue to arise. This scandal has caused many users to reach their breaking points, and people are calling for a boycott called #DeleteYourFacebook to try to send a message – users are not pawns for political agendas.
