Fashion brands to keep an eye out for in 2021

January 22, 2021

Loungewear, cottagecore, and athleisure are expected to rule the 2021 fashion scene, likely as a byproduct of the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns– people really took sweatpants, workout clothing and DIY tie dyed hoodies and made it fashion. Some top global brands expected to grow in popularity this year include:

  1. Brother Vellies: a New York based ethical fashion and accessory line
  2. Chopova Lowena: an England-based secondhand and handmade retailer
  3. Thebe Magugu: an African designer who sells womenswear made by local artisans
  4. Paris Georgia: a New Zealand-based team of independent sewers who specialize in slip dresses and knitwear
  5. Medea: an Italian handbag producer

One thing these brands–all but the latter– have in common is that they support ethical production methods. As there is growing consciousness about brand sustainability from the consumer, it’s fitting that 2021 will see a lot more effort to purchase ethically sourced clothing. One downside could be the price tag– these products are generally on the more expensive end of the fashion spectrum, but nonetheless support local artists and help our own planet. Spending a little more is definitely worth it in considering the great impact sustainability-conscious clothing has on the world.
