Historic Women’s March

January 30, 2017

More than a million people marched on January 21st in the Women’s March. The Women’s March Mission:

We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families – recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.

The march gathered hundred of thousands across the United States and around the globe to simply say, ‘We are not going back’. Although the focus of the day was the Women’s March on Washington, many people attended the hundreds of “sister marches” that occurred internationally. Women and men in cities including Sydney, Berlin, London, Paris, Cape Town, and more marched in solidarity with the marchers in Washington and in opposition to the values they believe President Trump represents. Purely this march gathered women and men from all walks of life and allowed them to express their thoughts and concerns with that are currently going on in the nation. The march was for gender equality, racial equality, LGBTQIA equality, economic justice, reproductive freedom, equal pay, paid family leave, labor protections, clean water, and for an end to violence against women, police brutality, and racial profiling. An ambitious platform, but it seems that was the point. The social climate is so extreme, it seems only fitting a movement would be so radical. Maya Angelou once said, “each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women”, words of inspiration.
