What do George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Michael Jordan have in common? As of this month, they are members of a very exclusive club: the only celebrities in America worth more than Jay-Z. The rapper came in at number 5 on Forbes’ yearly ranking of celebrity wealth, tied with Kylie Jenner at $900 million, and is now the richest musician in the country.
How did he get to this point? It started with music, of course. And 13 albums in just over 20 years is pretty impressive.
But he’s also experimented in other fields. Jay-Z has produced films, released a shoe collection, started a sports agency, and even dabbled in sports ownership with the Brooklyn Nets.
Through it all, he has succeeded as a fantastic marketer.
Put it all together, and you have a $900 million career. For Jay and his wife, Beyonce Knowles-Carter, the Forbes list has certainly been worth celebrating this holiday season
