Michael Phelps – The Man, The Myth, The Olympic Legend

August 22, 2016

Michael Phelps, already the most decorated Olympian of all time, came out of retirement (nonetheless at the age of 30) to triumph yet again. “I’m 30 years old and swimming almost faster than I ever have before,” he warned. A Maryland local, Phelps began swimming at a young age to help with his abundance of energy. At the 2008 Beijing Games, Phelps took home eight gold metals and broke fellow American swimmer Mark Spitz’s record. After returning for the 2012 London Games, Phelps said he was going to hang up his swim fins. “It’s tough to put into words right now, but I finished my career how I wanted to”. Well, not so fast. There are whispers that Phelps came back to win gold in the 200-meter butterfly, which he lost in London to South African Olympian swimmer, Cad Le Clos. In Rio, he came in first in the 200-meter butterfly and received his 21st gold metal in the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay. Phelps came back in a big way and we (along with the world) are fascinated watching him swim.
