Netflix Wins Another Battle

February 23, 2018

Ryan Murphy recently signed an estimated $300 million deal with Netflix, making it the one of the biggest deals ever made for a television producer. The five-year pact calls for the showrunner to produce new series and films exclusively for Netflix. The deal is expected to start July 1 when Murphy’s current deal with 20th Century Fox TV expires. “Ryan Murphy’s series have influenced the global cultural zeitgeist, reinvented genres and changed the course of television history. His unflattering dedication to excellence and to give voice to the underrepresented, to showcase a unique perspective or just to shock the hell out of us, permeates his genre-shattering work,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer. Murphy’s decision to shift his overall deal to Netflix is another sign of the streaming service’s immense market power. “The history of this moment is not lost on me. I am a gay kid from Indiana who moved to Hollywood in 1989 with $55 in savings in my pocket, so the fact that my dreams have crystallized and come true in such a major way is emotional and overwhelming to me,” Murphy emotionally said. Throughout Murphy’s impressive career, he pushes the boundaries and makes it popular, which is what we can expect and more for his Netflix debut.
