No Sweethearts on Valentine’s Day This Year

February 15, 2019

Valentine’s Day 2019 has come and gone, but this time, an annual staple was missing. Sweethearts, the famous candy hearts branded with romantic messages, were a no-show this year.

Sweethearts have always been pretty polarizing, as some people find them delicious while others despise the chalky texture. But that’s not why they’ve disappeared; in fact, Sweethearts were America’s most popular candy during the Valentine’s Day season last year.

The real reason they’ve gone MIA is that Spangler Candy Company bought NECCO Wafers (the owners of Sweethearts) in 2018, and they couldn’t manufacture candy fast enough in time for February.

But rejoice (or complain): Sweethearts plan on being back next year!
