This Thursday, Sotheby’s and RM Auctions will join forces to put on one of the most incredible car auctions ever. Among the 30 “investment-grade automobiles” on the block is a 1956 Ferrari 290 created especially for the five-time racing World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio. He drove this exact car in the 1956 Mille Miglia and it’s expected to fetch between $28 – $32 million dollars. While most of the cars appeal to motor heads, there’s one vehicle that comes with true flower-power provenance. Rocker, Janice Joplin bought this 1968 Porsche 356 cabriolet second-hand in dove grey and asked roadie, Dave Richards to “spruce it up” a bit. He returned it with a paintjob he called “History of the Universe” complete with Joplin’s Capricorn astrological sign, a Northern California valley and portraits of Joplin’s band members. The bidding is expected to surpass $400,000. Far out!
