Oreo (and the Rest of the World) Capitalize on “Thrones” Mania

April 12, 2019

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” will be making its return on Sunday, and like just about everybody else, Oreo knows it. To celebrate the occasion, they’re releasing limited-edition cookies featuring famous symbols from the show.

The cookies will be the same Oreos we’ve all known and loved for so long, but with the insignias of the major “Game of Thrones” Houses (or families) adorning the outside. These designs are, of course, etched into the cookie and therefore edible.

Oreo isn’t the only brand looking to take advantage of the hype. Mountain Dew is creating special cans to celebrate the final season, and even the American Red Cross is creating a special blood donation event geared towards “Thrones” fans.

HBO has also done some attention-grabbing advertising of its own, dropping Iron Thrones in random places around the country and creating eye-popping character posters for social media.

Over the course of the next several weeks, fans will be clamoring to find out who will end up on the throne before the series reaches its conclusion. In the meantime, we’ll be able to see which brands benefit the most from the unfurling phenomenon.
