Suits of a Kind

August 29, 2006

We’ve all been here and there, no pun intended. As man of the world -or at least North America, your meeting out of town got bumped back a day and now (because you hate any kind of additional luggage when traveling) you’re stuck without a proper dress shirt/suit jacket for the breakfast/dinner/drinks your client wants to have. Over the past decade I have been in that situation one too many times. So I have compiled some of my favorite finer men’s clothier’s across the states. Here’s my top dozen joints I rely upon to keep me at least looking respectable. –Oh, and it makes for one hell of a road as well…

Dallas:
Stanley Korshak, 500 Crescent Court, Dallas 214.871.3645 www.stanleykorshak.com.
True story: had an early morning meeting, got there just as the doors closed the night before. My suit was tailored and delivered to my hotel that evening by the time I returned from a late night dinner. Old world service, excellent suit selection and a “we can do that” attitude.

Denver:
Andrisen Morton, 270 St. Paul St, Denver, CO 303.377.8488 www.andrisenmorton.com Be sure to see their Zenga collection, it’s fantastic.

California:
Newport Beach:
Garys, 1065 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach, Calif 949.759.1622 www.garysonline.com One of my personal favorites. While you’re there be sure to see the Nat Nast collection.

San Fran:
Wilkes Bashford, 375 Sutter St, San Fran 415.986.4380 www.wilkesbashford.com Wonderful upscale “without a suit” selections. Awesome shoes.

Chicago:
There’s great shopping in Chi-town. All you have to do is walk down Michigan Ave. But for my money, the tops is Mark Shale, 900 North Michigan Ave, Chicago 312.440.0720 www.markshale.com Everything you need from sweaters to suits. And they have a taller men’s shop.

Seattle:
Sure it rains a lot. Sure it’s usually cold. But a stop at Mario’s on the corner of Sixth Ave (1513 Sixth Ave) Seattle 206.223.1461 www.marios.com will change your day. Great selection of men’s sport with a downtown attitude.
