Train Spotting

April 28, 2015

Japan’s maglev train reached the utterly insane speed of 375 miles per hour on a test run near Mount Fuji last week, breaking the world speed record for maglev (magnetic levitation) technology. Japan’s famous high-speed trains use high-powered electromagnets to keep the trains physically lifted off the track and by removing the friction the wheels create, the train is able to travel at enormous speeds. Currently, the fastest maglev passenger train travels from Shanghai to its airport, 18 miles in 8 minutes reaching a top speed of 267 miles per hour. Anyone interested in a 45 minute trip from NYC to Washington DC without a trip to the airport? We know we are.
