Twitter Stories?

March 13, 2020

Similar to Facebook and Instagram, Twitter will now be introducing a story feature called “Fleets.” Users will be able to post content that cannot receive likes or retweets, and the posts will disappear after 24 hours. Fleets will be located at the top of a user’s profile, just like other social media platforms that utilize story features. The creation comes from a concern of Twitter users who feel uncomfortable tweeting because of the platform’s public nature. Fleets will maintain a limit of 280 characters just like regular tweets as well as the option to add GIFs, images, and videos.

Receiving mixed reviews upon their announcement, some people did not see the purpose of stories on Twitter. Others, however, see it as a unique way to tweet whatever they please without worrying about its permanence. Instagram has seen tremendous success with stories over the years, and many believe that Twitter is pining for similar success. Fleets will be implemented for Twitter users in Brazil beginning this month.
