How about being the sole employee of a shopping mall where the only one customer ever is Barbra Streisand? Sounds strange, well, the story may be fiction, but the mall is real. According to “My Passion for Design” by Streisand, there is indeed a mall built in the basement on her Malibu estate. “Buyer & Cellar”tells the story of an out of work actor, Alex Moor, who is hired to man the mall and sometimes haggle over prices with his famous customer. The one-man play stars Michael Urie of Ugly Betty fame and has been so well received, it’s been extended at least through October at the Barrow Street Theater. Tickets are $75.
