Will Apple Rescue The Music Industry – Again?

Way back in 2001, record companies couldn’t control digital music and they hated industry newcomer, iTunes and their 99 cents-a-song sales model. Record companies wanted variable pricing and album-only sales. Eventually, Apple’s ease-of-use became the music industry’s greatest defense and by 2014, iTunes accounted for 63% of all digital sales. From 2001 – 2013, digital sales steadily grew until 2014 when it suddenly dropped 15%. Why? Streaming music. Well, Apple isn’t the kind of company that will let Spotify and Pandora eat their lunch, so they are expect to announce a new streaming service that promises to revolutionize the music industry – again. They’re rumored to be putting the full force of Apple’s might behind this effort and their app will come standard in a prominent position on all iPhone home screens. After spending 3 billion…yes, 3 BILLION to purchase Beats Music, Apple sounds like it means business. At least this time – iTunes Radio? Please forget about that. Read more at Mashable.
