A Scary New Year Start

February 3, 2020

2020 is already an exciting time, but for some, that excitement has been put on hold. Recent outbreaks of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China has put the world on edge and disrupted the Lunar New Year for many.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the virus an “emergency in China”, having infected over 17,238 people and killed 361. It has caused China to enter a lockdown, with flights being canceled and airport security heightened.

Despite containment efforts, the outbreak has spread to other countries, the U.S. included. Since this is amid the Chinese New Year celebrations, many people are traveling to see friends and family, potentially spreading the virus more.

The WHO has declared the coronavirus as a global emergency, causing countries to take cautious measures and the hunt for a vaccine is on. This is not the New Year China was expecting, and hopefully it can be resolved soon.
