Tearful Tributes and Sweeping Wins: Grammys 2020

February 14, 2020

In wake of the tragic helicopter accident that killed Kobe Bryant, his daughter, Gianna, and 7 others the morning of this year’s annual Grammy Awards, the night was full of tearful tributes and sweeping victories. Alicia Keys was a gracious host and opened the night paying tribute to the Lakers legend, his young daughter, and the other families who lost their lives that morning. There were other heartfelt moments paying homage to Bryant, but the tone of the show quickly turned celebratory as acts like Lil Nas X, Lizzo, and Tyler, the Creator took the stage and delivered captivating performances. Demi Lovato also made a tearful return to music, two years after her overdose shook the nation.

Billie Eilish swept the floor, winning the four major categories: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, and Song of the Year. This makes her the youngest artist to ever be nominated and win all four categories. Although the evening began in heartbreak, it ended in hope and triumph.
