Bye Bye Minibar

The designs of hotel guest rooms are changing and some hotel goers are not very happy about the new change. The days of spacious rooms and wood desks that invite long hours of working seem to be accommodations of the past. “I’m a millennial, but I’m also an introvert,” said a New York Times travel blogger. “Hotel executives are building everything around millennials right now and they expect all millennials to want to work in these hip, communal lobby spaces or in bed.” Also, credit must be given to changes in technology and the expectations of what a traveler needs in a hotel. But the new modernize hotel room doesn’t work for everyone. Hotel guests are not only seeing their work space being eliminated, but also their closets! The run-of-the mill closets are being replaced with hanging racks. This modern new feel invading many hotel rooms encourages guests to get out of their room and explore new adventures. Interior designers will need to aim at keeping the pace with evolving needs of businesses and travelers and anticipate a universal level of confusion. Of course there will be a brand that speaks to each and every hotel guests and loyalties will lie with the brand that gives hotel guests what they inevitably want. But until the confusion between old and new settles, this could very likely be an ongoing conversation.
