Detroit Roots

‘Lady of the House’ is a restaurant as old-fashioned as it gets in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood. Roast chicken for four, slabs of mushroom toast smeared with homemade ricotta, creamy roasted cauliflower served in a parmesan sauce…do we need to go on? Kate Williams, a Detroit native, is striving at keeping her restaurant focus local and true to her childhood neighborhood. Although some might assume ‘Lady of the House’ is a reference to the chef, it is not. The restaurant name was inspired from being the ultimate hostess and being able to throw the ultimate dinner party every night. Much of her produce comes from urban farms, her alcohol is from local distilleries and her décor is handmade by a local artist. ‘Lady of the House’ also works with local businesses to create distinctive branded items within the restaurant. The Detroit Rose candles restaurant goers will notice throughout the restaurant are a ‘Lady’ scent. “My dad is still passionate about the potato famine,” Williams said. “So I was like, I can’t open a restaurant without a white potato dessert.” At ‘Lady of the House’ the menu will always feature the potato doughnuts served with dried yogurt and a chamomile sauce. The restaurant is personalized corner to corner.
