Spider-Man Sparks Air Jordan 1 Reboot

December 13, 2018

The Air Jordans make a comeback through Nike’s brilliant marketing with the new Spider-man film.

Nothing sells a good pair of shoes like placing them in a blockbuster. Or if those shoes happened to be an OG favorite, that might make them sell even faster. These shoes happen to be Air Jordan 1’s. The retro shoe is making a comeback after Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has their protagonist, Miles Morales wearing the iconic sneaker. Nike is part of the 115 million dollar promotional marketing campaign backing up the new film.

The movie is set to release on December 14th, and companies like Nike, General Mills and Hasbro have latched onto the film to make their marketing dollars count. According to Deadline, “Typically brands at this time of year seek to capitalize on Christmastime to drive sales, but the fact that they’re partnering with Spider-Man speaks to his commercial power, arguably up there with Star Wars.”

This is good news for the companies involved and shows us that the reboot of the retro sneaker was a good call. The shoes stay true to their orginial style with a few new spider-man centric touches. The reboot shoe is started at $160 which is a steal considering some pairs of the originals from 1985 are going for over $5,000.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is expected to open to north of $30M at the domestic B.O. on Dec. 14. The movie already boasts a 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score from 33 critics.” In other words, Nike bringing back their Air Jordan’s was an act of genius. Plus, you never know if these shoes will be worth $10,000 in 2045.
