We heart Target. We love the catchy commercials, the steals and deals, the celebrity endorsements, and the impressionable red bullseye. All of which are part of its efficacious marketing. But will the beloved Target remain the same once the CMO moves to Uber? Marketing Executive, Jeff Jones, has just requested the ultimate Uber ride. Jones will soon be the head of marketing and operations at the car service company. During his reign at Target for nearly four years, Jones has successfully made the retail store into a shopping conglomerate. “Jeff Jones has modernized Target’s marketing and helped drive Target’s strategy, creating momentum for the company and positioning Target for the future,” expressed Target’s CEO. He was the man responsible for catapulting the brand to a shopper and advertiser’s staple with his spotless understanding of marketing relevance. A CMO leaving right before the critical holiday rush is never an ideal situation for a retail brand, but Target insiders ensures its costumers that stores will be more than ready for the selling and buying season. As Jones leaves the red bullseye to put his marketing thumb on the trendy and fast-rising U, many will be watching closely to see how he translates.
