Disney/Pixar “Up” Balloon Comes to Life

May 10, 2016

In 2009 the world instantly fell in love with the courageous Disney/Pixar character, Carl Fredericksen, from the wildly popular film “Up”. Fredericksen’s determination and devotion to fulfill his lifelong promise to his deceased wife by traveling to Paradise Falls in a hot air balloon inspired all admirers’ to follow their dreams. It seems that’s just what balloon enthusiast Simon Askey did. Askey created Cameron TR-84, the real-life “Up” balloon. His masterpiece has 600 tiny rainbow colored balloons sewn into its outer skin of 84,000 cubic feet (which is considered small compared to standard balloons). The Bristol-made balloon was one of 40 at the 2016 Canberra Balloon Spectacular this past March in Australia. The balloon attracted many visitors to the festival all-looking to get a sneak peak at the balloon phenomenon. Inspired by both the design and adventure from the film, Askey intends to travel the world; “It was created to support the Disney/Pixar movie “Up”. We’re hoping to send the balloon to Japan later this year” he told Buzzfeed News. We’re looking forward to seeing where Cameron’s TR-84 travels go!
